Up, Up and Away
Mariano RosenzvaigSome points for a match report:
- We were playing against the top of the league. They arrived quite confident, with just ten players warming up and the eleventh arriving a couple of minutes before push back, quietly walking…
- Our squad, on the other hand, was the usual mix of youth and fresh legs, and years and experience, plus some reinforcements of keeper and midfielder. We were putting a great squad on the pitch.
- The game was played at a good intensity. We managed to mantain a good pace, using our four subs wisely and putting them into trouble in their D and in the middle. The game was played at our rhythm but we failed to score some of the many chances we had in the first half.
- In the half time talk we were sure that we would win the game. We had the legs and hockey to start scoring, and we were sure they were tired, with no subs to refresh them.
- We kept pushing up, even through the usual strong tackles that you can expect.
- By mid-way through the second half, after a great combination in the middle, we moved the ball to the right and Peter showed some skills to eliminate some tackles inside the D and put the ball om the P spot for Mariano, who passed the ball to the far post for Jamie to put the ball inside the goal. One-nil up, and the game started to open for us.
- They came back, with everything they had, and our defence held them with great strength, and specially Chris, our keeper, who decided that they shall not pass!
- With the game open for breaks, after a combination in the middle Mariano passed the ball to Nev on the left, who put it to the far post for Oli to make a perfect deflection. Two-nil and the game was absolutely ours.
- In the meantime, Mariano decided to throw some aerials, and to test how high were the Long Road fences. Apparently, not high enough…
Overall it was a great game for the squad, putting in a strong performance against the top of the league, once again.
