You Win Some, You Lose Some

Lou Walker

Last league game of the season. Could the L5s follow last week’s excellent home win with a similar result? (Spoiler alert: no.) With a very defence-heavy team, several people were playing out of their preferred positions. Special mention goes to defender Lauren who adapted to play in the forward line, making some great runs and good positioning. The ever-changing L5s line-up meant that this was once again a new combination of players, but we once again played well as a team. Vicky worked her socks off as an attacking midfielder, chasing back and forth to support attack and defence. Annabel had an excellent game in midfield, repeatedly winning fifty-fifty balls and pushing up the attack.

Newmarket used the pitch space well and made strong, accurate passes. There was some great play from defenders Laura, Elly, Sarah and Hannah, fighting off pressure from Newmarket attacks, and Bryony made some impressive saves. Once again Nicole was energetically and determinedly driving through the midfield and hassling any yellow players in possession of the ball.

South picked up their energy and linked together better in the second half, conceding only a couple of goals. There was a wide spread of different PoM votes reflecting a great team performance. Thank you to our fantastic captain, Nicole, for all the work and organisation you have put in this season, and to Bhav for all your coaching.

Great energy and attacking play, keeping us all motivated and playing on after taking a hit to the ankle.
