A Fun Friendly in Bury

A slightly grey start to a Saturday brought the L6s back to Bury for a friendly re-match. With Polly having a first shot in goal and our regular L5s outfield, we were all set to play.

Bury started strong and this resulted in an early attempt at goal, which was beautifully booted away by Polly. South got back into it and played some lovely strong balls in Bury’s half. Bury, however, managed to find the backboard and get in the first goal. South fought back and quickly evened the scoreboard with a goal by Sophie. With some beautiful runs up the side by Becky, Nicole and Lou and another goal from Sophie, South were two-one up. Despite the defence staying strong Bury managed to soon even the score again. A short in Bury’s D meant that Lou was able to get in a goal followed by Juliette, who confirmed the four-two lead in the first half.

Half time talk, South felt strong and confident to play a winning second half. Quickly following the whistle we realised Bury did too, with them receiving a short corner resulting in a goal. We restarted but, despite everyone putting in best efforts to keep the ball in Bury’s half and Polly endeavouring that hockey balls were not to pass her, Bury sneaked in two more. South fought strongly to bring it back, however the whistle was blown before we were able to even the score.

Bury, we will be back!
