Groundhog Day

Andy Thomas

Sean and the author turned up to Bishop’s Stortford for the second time. Other than the sun being on the opposite side of the pitch, the sense of déjà vu was strong.

Numbers can be hard to find for away games as it is but with Alan Radford’s injury unfortunately worsening and Michael Gillingham becoming both ill and injured during his earlier two games, we were left with a bare eleven. Four of whom had played already.

The team showed excellent discipline and composure throughout. Ian Marshman lead a warm-up. People knew their positions, communication happened well. Both teams kept possession really well, and the game was characterised by each team having phases of several minutes at a time attacking in and around the D.

There were many shots on goal. There were some shots that got past the keeper. Sadly none that did both at the same time. We got two short corners - one had a fluffed up injection but the other lead to a flick. Jan took the flick - a well executed shot right to the extreme bottom left. Unfortunately, it was well anticipated and saved with a dive.

Stepping up as keeper when Michael became ill. This included having to do a round trip from Stortford to South to pick up a keeping kit.
