First game back of the season. Against Stortford. Indian summer sun beaming down. Nerves. Can I hold a hockey stick? Can I last seventy minutes?

All to be revealed. Goals flying in from both sides. Some excellent goals from South. Stortfords extremely well drilled short corners whizzing by…

Three-four final score… Haven’t I been here before? This feels too familiar.

Ahh yes, last year. Only difference is we are wearing purple shirts not yellow dresses. Skip forward to the end of the season, both Stortford and South finish first in their leagues? Wonderful. I. WILL. TAKE. THAT.

South started off really well, scoring first. Two-one at half time to us. We battled hard in what was a physical encounter with Amalia, our MoM, putting in some excellent tackles. In the end, our performance dipped whilst Stortfords stayed. Goals came from Hazza, Alice and Izzy (young, not wise).

My favourite pre-match moment was on the L1s’ chat when talking about masks for short corners; Katie G happily volunteering to swing by a shop to pick up some masks… How corona has changed our lives.

Special mention to our LoM Izzy (young, not wise) for turning up at 11.00 for our 12.45 meet time. Only to walk home, lose track of time and turn up at 13.25…!
