Haribo-Gate

Emily Stevenson

The day started with a scouting mission, watching the L5s to see if we could bolster our squad. On arrival, Tess and I were hastily recruited to play as the team was severely depleted due to some late arrivals. It turned out to be a good warm-up and also the trip was successful, as we snapped up two players to come play for us later in the afternoon.

This time last year we were soundly beaten eight-nil and we were determined to make the scoreline closer, if not turn it around.

We started strongly with some quick breaks and took the lead in the first half, as a through ball put me in on goal to strike past the keeper. We went in at half time with a one-nil lead. Some say it was during the half time team talk that it all started to go wrong. Ginny will tell you that it was because she was the only one to miss out on a Haribo! The second half saw Bishop’s Stortford come back strongly and we were on the back foot for large parts. The defence held strong, ably assisted by the midfield. Unfortunately the opposition managed to break through twice and find the back of the net.

Despite the defeat we have plenty of positives to take from the game and forward into next week. Onwards and upwards.

MoM went to Ginny for strong defence and passing around the back even without her half time Haribo (just think what she could have done with a fried egg and a fizzy cola bottle!)

LoM went to Olivea for a collision into forward roll gymnastics.

Great clearing up at the back and lots of lovely balls down the line.
