The Comeback

Abi Jewkes

The first match jitters were out of the way and South turned up ready for business.

Despite deciding to park in a place far, far away, Jess and her car managed to make the trek in time for the start of the match but did earn herself a LoM nomination.

Play started and the teams seemed quite equally matched. The South forwards created some great goal scoring opportunities, while the strong work rate from the defence and midfield held off the St Neots attacks.

All was going well until Abi sealed her fate as LoM by receiving a green card. One woman down but South continued to hold back the St Neots forwards.

The team returned to full numbers; however this was not enough to prevent a rather lucky goal from St Neots. This was the gamechanger for South. Rather than letting their heads go down South just upped the ante!

An awesome goal from Haz brought the teams level to 1-1 but the comeback had not finished there. Further attacks from South led to a foot on the line from St Neots and a flick. Alice was calm and collected as she converted this to a two-one lead for South. A further goal from Haz during a short corner took the score to three-one.

The pressure was then on for South to maintain this lead.

St Neots brought the score back to three-two. This was then followed by a succession of nail-biting defensive short corners for South to close out the game. The South defence held strong and no goals were conceded.

Final score: 3-2

MOM: Haz, for great goals. Not to be confused with Hattie!
LOM: Abi, naughty naughty, green card.

Shout outs:

  • Charlotte – for great composure defensively in the D.
  • Katie C – solid at the back.
  • George – great defensive work.

And finally: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMALIA!
