So Close!

This was a fun and more evenly matched game than the scoreline might suggest. It was only one-nil at half time, following a good short corner strike from probably the strongest player on the Newmarket team. The L6s are beginning to come together as a team and there was an improvement in passing and communication from last week.

Dropping down to twelve at the last minute meant no subs for the defense but they battled hard and all had a great game. Lauren M was player of the match for another excellent game in central defense with lots of great block tackles and clearances. Joint second place went to Laura, also for excellent defending, and Lauren D who was making some great drives with the ball to link defense and midfield. Good use was made of the width on hit outs. Our midfield and attack kept battling, with a few nice moves into Newmarket’s D but no goal this time. Annabel had another awesome game in goal with some great diving saves and reflex stops. Despite her new found enthusiasm for playing up front, Janette didn’t hesitate to come back and help the defensive effort when Newmarket made a gallop for the post in the final quarter as South began to tire a little.
