Just keep swimming

A few matches in and we are definitely back into true hockey season – nervously awaiting the rain and an opposition who apparently narrowly missed out on promotion last year.

Rain aside we pleasantly surprised ourselves as the game kicked off to a pretty even start – we had the legs and determination and soon settled. However, a few trusty ‘foot’s later and we faced a succession of short corners, of which two hit the backboards despite Bryony’s great saves and Lucy Bedford’s sterling, unwavering work in defence (rightfully earning her POM). Tabs also had a go in defence when she gave the defenders the nod before launching the ball straight off the back line (rightfully earning her LOM!). Not to be outdone, Jazz earned joint-LOM with the slowest slow-mo fall imaginable.

Regardless we kept our heads up and powered on, there were some fabulous runs by Lucia, excellent composed play and passing by Rachel, which all helped the team work strongly together. Clearly rattled, the opposition got increasingly cross in their war cries and only got 1 goal narrowly between defenders in the second half.

Overall a superb effort by all, we had some fun and our hockey is on the up – good work girls!

Being very chuffed with herself clearing the ball off the backline, until she realised this gave away a penalty corner
