Captain's attention to detail sets foundation for win

Paul South

On a lovely sunny day and with the anticipation that Nomads would have additional support from higher teams, South went into this match very much as under-dogs.

As the match progressed, it was clear that the opposition certainly had a good team but surprisingly, it was South who took the lead with a cracking goal by Owen (aka Oven), making a very welcome return to the team after a couple of year's absence in Poland, his speed and skill opening up the defence to crack the ball into the net past an unfortunate keeper.

It was again out of the blue when this was followed up by another quality goal from Si, again using silky skills to get past the defenders and slide the ball into the goal.

So 2-0 up at halftime but we knew that we had been fortunate and the difference between the teams did not support that margin, nevertheless our defence had been solid with great covering by all, so all to play for in the second half.

With the sun burning into our eyes due to our captain's decision to play from the other end in the first half, inexplicably forcing us to swap to the other end of the pitch to start the first half (a decision which at least trebled the warm up effort for some of our players and may have explained our first half performance). Actually, in reality, the sun was nigh overhead and it didn't matter a gnats fart where the sun was but stay with the story.... Anyway, the butterfly effect was clearly at work here as shortly after the 2nd half began Owen found himself with the ball advancing at pace into the opposing D and sizing up the opportunity struck a cracking shot into the goal from a narrowing angle. South riding high now continued to dominate and a short corner ensued. Monkosaurus was on hand for strike and he didn't disappoint, however, the defender managed to get his stick to it just as M. struck and the ball ballooned to the heavens. When it eventually came down the butterfly effect on the wind, the aerial dynamics of the spin and the ice on the ball resulted in it dropping just under the bar in the top right hand corner of the net for South's 4th. Opposition protests were swiftly and rightly overruled as the height that the ball entered the goal was due to the deflection.

The writer then left the pitch to consider this report and in the very last minutes Nomads finally put it together to score a late but very good consolation goal employing the skills that were very apparent from the beginning.

So 4-1 the final tally and it has to be said that, in retrospect, it was obviously the captain's decision at the outset that set the consequential foundation for this outcome, brilliantly employing the butterfly effect principle that led to this very convincing and whole team based victory.
