The match report. In a conversational style.

Rob Barton

Then there was a smaller one. Little Tommy. Assistant coach and deputy chief supporter. Then Mikey. OK, not in yellow. In jeans. Chief supporter, advisor, and fast-becoming wise young owl.

Some of the usual regulars played. And a few welcome irregulars too. Good to see you.

Still whatever the ingredients today the recipe worked. Some great passing and flowin the first half. A good balance to the side. And uncharacteristically good communication for us. Keep that up.

Just the one goal in the first half. Fortunately ours. Courtesy of James’s reverse. Probably from a short. T’other James came very close as well. Folks were pleased with themselves at the break. Rightly so.

But then oh. The equaliser. On balance fair. The game was even.

The winner though was great. Three good passes. Defender to midfielder to forward. Forward into darting Roman in the D. He pounced at the second time of asking. Goal!

He’s new to this arena. But clearly not new to competing. Well taken goal. Well done, Roman.

Big smile but an underplayed celebration. He'll learn. Still, first senior goal! First of many from these youngsters you feel.

The game petered after that. Royston were competing well now. They gave a good fight.

It could genuinely have gone either way.

James got told off by the umpire.

It could genuinely have gone either way.

Four all this summer. That is in terms of goals scored between us and Royston. Pretty good match up. Competitive but there’s mutual respect. Good bunch of lads us and them. Here’s to the next one. The decider! Ooh...

Man and lemon were awarded, as explained. Tommy is clearly now banned from supporting. He adds: “ The team played well. But sometimes we need more energy. And speed.”

I think I like conversational style. It’s punchy. It’s modern. And don’t just take my word for it. Read this blog post. It’s rather excellent. All Simon's blogs are. I hope this report reads as well.**

Until the next time.

Cheerio.

** According to Mr Hall: "It [this report] reads really well – sharp, punchy, informative and entertaining". I'll take that!

Roman Bartels
Player of the Match

All round excellent play, capped by the winning goal. Well done Roman! Honourable mentions for Kieran’s excellent work in midfield and Jo for his outstanding keeping (again) especially the multiple saves at the end.

Rob Barton
Lemon of the Match

Pretty much everyone voted for Wilco for watching calmly from the sidelines while Kieran struggled in midfield as we started with only ten men. However, Rob received 15 (fifteen!) votes from assistant coach / supporter Tommy Barton for passing the ball to Royston's sweeper. Oh dear.
