M6 1-5 St Neots Mens 3

The match was played in great spirits and South came up a very well organised and talented St Neots team. We kept to our pre-match selection strategy as much as possible and it was decided that Ky would have a stint as centre forward for the first period of the second half. Ky had not played in that position for fifteen years he informed us, however he was agile and sharp enough to nick our only goal!

The defence were under pressure for most of the game and Tendayi was our hero by volunteering to play in goals! We went two goals down very quickly with an unfortunate short corner given against us on one occasion [Ed – they scored two from one short corner???]. St Neots played with runners all over the pitch with a player continuously swooping from side to side staying up front, confusing the hell out of our back line!

Great contributions by the back line- Anthony- (voted man of the match), Ian who mentored the back with Ky in the first half who was his usual cool and commanding self, along with Shahzad who also maintained a high ration of tackles. Nick also had great contributions and fought tirelessly against the attacking stream with some great interceptions.

The midfield had no choice but to come deeper and deeper with Andy, Wilco and Matteo making sound contributions. John was affective up front along with James and Roman. Kieran made a nuisance of himself and got suitably stuck in with the opposition.

Through great teamwork we manufactured some promising attacks and could have added to the score sheet with a few short corners won. Although the opposition were well organised and drilled I felt that we played with a great team spirit and a certain amount of resilience. Well done all for a great match!
