L6 new season

In time honoured tradition, we started off with the all-important 'names round.' Welcome to Suzi Pugh playing her first game for South, and she had a great game in defence, barely missing a tackle throughout. A big thank you to Emily, Nicole, Polly, Anna and Laurie who doubled up to give us the numbers for the game – the last two straight after a tough game with the 3s. And an extra thank you to Polly for stepping into goal, where she made some quality saves which all proved crucial given the final scoreline. She also found time this weekend to make a Bake-Off worthy cheesecake and do a triathlon.

It was a fun and even match. South started off dominant for the most part but it was Stortford who opened the scoring with an impressive reverse flick into the top of the net. We fought back form the restart and Emily equalized, adding to the hat trick she’d just scored for the 4s before racing across to play her second game.

In a change of their usual positions, Harriet and Avi joined Emily up front. Some strong hits from Harriet and wide runs by Avi kept up the South pressure. Lauren made some excellent clearances in defence, staying calm under pressure.

South were caught out on a break after a short corner, leading to Stortford regaining the lead in the second half. South did not give up, and after a scramble in the D, Avi forced the ball over the line, to bring the final score to 2-2.
