Summer Hockey?

After their trek to Long Sutton last weekend with nine players, the 6s were grateful to line-up at Long Road with a full squad. Spirits were high after our 0-0 victory last week and we were excited to see what we could do against Pelican 3s with a full side. The first half was a tight affair, with both teams having a fair number of shots on goal. The closest chance was a shot from a Pelican’s short corner but Kirsty was there on the post to stop it on her reverse. Claire was kept busy during her second stint ever in goal but kept Pelicans at bay with the first half finishing 0-0. Things started to spice up in second half with a well worked goal scored by Nicky to take us 1-0 up in the first ten minutes. Nice. South continued to work hard throughout the half with players like Vicky and Holly covering every inch of the pitch. Unfortunately Pelicans were able to score from a 1v1 and then two scrappy goals, including one in which the ball inexplicably changed direction (?) while Claire was making a diving save. Not the result we hoped for but a performance we can be happy with. In temperatures warmer than most were prepared for, the work rate can’t be faulted against a team stronger than expected. Loads of promising play to move forwards with, bring on St Neots 4s next weekend.
