A painful defeat

Matt Need

We all knew the stakes heading in to this game. An opportunity to show the division what we're made of with a statement win. The performance matched that opportunity with some excellent, fluid forward play. Tom Grove had a superb performance with his first start in the midfield, controlling the game with exceptional effort and dedication. Despite solid defense making the job more challenging, the forwards made excellent runs and created good opportunities. The midfield assisted Tom's effort with a good one themselves, moving the ball fluidly around the astro, creating space for one another. The wingbacks pressed high up the pitch contributing both offensively and defensively, whilst our solid backline made tackle after tackle, also pressing high up the pitch.

Unfortunately, their keeper had a blinder and they scored two on the break. Final score 2-0 City.

Some funny moments

a) Joe Whittaker starting the second half with an aerial deep into enemy territory

b) After pulling the keeper for an 11th outfielder trying to rescue a point, the team had to defend several short corners ( I was fully prepared to pull an Suarez and bat the ball off the line to save the goal). We did keep them all out which was a top effort!

c) Jimmy putting in the perfect injection only to be sent to the halfway line after I got eager and sprinted into the D.

d) Jim putting in some delightful crosses into the D, unfortunately forgetting that heading is only really done in football matches (the head height hits in were not appreciated)

Onto next week for a big top of the table clash in Peterborough
