Oh so close

Could this be the day when CSouth M6s break their 2021-22 duck? Watching the M1s battle to a 0-0 draw vs City showed us how it should be done ...long accurate passes, endless running off the ball, using the whole pitch, always options available. It will never catch on in Div 5NW. Maybe ...

It was Bourne Deeping who took inspiration from the M1s game, dominating first half possession, using the old and the young appropriately, and deservedly scoring after a dazzling dribble along the goal line was cut back for an easy goal past the otherwise heroic Ben Lye. CSouth could have got one back when midfield general Alex Budenburg surged through and was unlucky not to get a clean shot in.

After this the home defence led by HeadMan Piper kept out the northern hordes, but most upfield clearances werent able to get through the opposition ring. The CSouth cause wasn't helped by John "Lumberjack" Greaves's stick connecting once too often with a B-Deeping stick resulting in a short green-tinged rest just before half time

The second half was rather different, with the home team enjoying extensive possession, urged on by midfield general Matt Withington and his cohorts, particularly man of the match Kieran Birch on the wing, always in space wanting the ball and running at the defence, Pete "Zebedee" Drueitt, and that man Alex B. It was Mr Drueitt's thunderbolt forward hits into the D that provided the best chances, but the final deflection was not forthcoming. chairman Greaves stepped in with a few typical crossfield hits, but still the goal wouldnt come.

Even Ky Ho began to maraud upfield purposefully to show the front line how it should be done, but to no avail

So another defeat, but we get ever closer to achieving the dream. As always the M6's under skipper Jo Dant's calm leadership keep battling to the end, play for one another and as a team whose spirit remains high

Next week ...St Ives

increasingly effective on the wing, and always giving 100% as well as encouraging others

A bit too much stick-to-stick action resulting in an unscheduled rest for a couple of minutes
