M3 8-2 Wisbech Town Mens 2

Jonny Camp

Following on from last weeks defeat to St Ives [Ed - or Ely, as they are otherwise known...], the 3s were looking to bounce back strongly and regain the form that had seen them win the previous six games in a row. Having lost the opening game of the season away to Wisbech they expected it would be a tough and close game.

From the off, South started the game well. Scoring early on and putting Wisbech on the back foot immediately, or maybe they were just distracted by Henry who had squeezed himself into a woman’s hockey top, much to the delight of Ali from the sidelines. From there on things improved further with four more goals scored throughout the first half and featuring some lovely quick interplay and a nicely finished penalty flick.

After a riling half time team talk from George about the speed of the forward runners and their apparently ‘slow movement off the ball’, South scored straight after the whistle and set the tone for the second half.

Overall south were too strong for Wisbech and ran out 8-2 winners and a comfortable victory with goals coming from five different scorers.

The win leaves South in third position in the table heading into the winter break and in a very strong position to be challenging for promotion throughout the New Year.

A mention to Jack Chalk for his hattrick, here’s hoping that he escapes the usual M3s punishment of being immediately dropped after scoring one! Shin rightly received the vote for lemon for his clear hattrick avoidance.

Roll on the cup match next week!

Hat-tricks avoidance. Failure to score from inches. Then ordering a round, then couldn't pay.
