Men's 1sts lose to Cambridge Nomads 2
Cambridge South 1sts, sponsored by PwC, worked hard for seventy minutes but ultimately came up short against an organised and technically adept Nomads 2nds team.
Cambridge South started brightly and enjoyed enjoyed the first period of pressure, forcing a couple of long corners. It didn't take long for Nomads to impose themselves on the game, however, and after ten minutes the pattern of the game was beginning to emerge. Nomads enjoyed long periods of possession, and were able to push up into the South half. Goal scoring opportunities were tight, however, and it took until midway through the half before a goal was scored. A second arrived just before the half-time interval.
Thoughts of a second half comeback were quickly shattered when a penalty flick was adeptly put away into the corner of the South goal. Lukas Snetler was on the score sheet to pull one back for the away team but it proved only a consolation goal as Nomads ran out easy winners 5-1.
Vice-captain Rob Garrett was sanguine in defeat, "I'm disappointed to have lost this, but I can't fault the lads work rate, they all gave 110% throughout the 70 minutes. At the end of the day we came up against a decent Nomads team." [Ed. - Sounds more like Alan Shearer than Rob]
