Love thy goalkeeper
Georgia GrandA windy match in King’s Lynn today – and what a blast it was. The L6s arrive in a flurry for the 11am start, sporting various shades of yellow kit. Forward player Nicky battles through the headwind and secures the team an early point. The comfort of this headstart is short-lived as the opposition breezily responds with two excellent goals of their own.
Spirits are still high at half-time, and Percy Pigs are distributed generously to all. Love thy goalkeeper.
Second half pushback, Nicky directs to top midfielder Liz – the pass is missed as the ball is blown towards bottom diamond where it narrowly avoids Georgia’s stick. The Pelicans are in flight, gliding down the pitch and ready to turn this mistake to their advantage. Thankfully, rock solid defender Elly stands tall in any wind and, unfazed, hits it back to centre-field via the wings.
After some back and forth, player Avi is driving the ball up the pitch and flips to fellow forward Elaine, who fires it beautifully into the cage. The Pellies counteract with a third goal, which South catches up to in no time thanks to a reverse sweep by Avi.
After a final goal from the Pelicans, the wind drops, the game has ended. It’s all smiles as the L6s heads inside for teas.
