The 6s were ready and raring to play the 5s with an almost full squad despite the late push back time. With Meg commenting “I bleed purple” - team spirit was high for the intra-club derby.

Starting strong with lots of marking and tackles, the 5s broke through into the D but Elly and Meg were always there to stop them and pass the ball up to the mids. A few short corners were awarded to the 5s, but Harry and May put up a strong defence. GK Claire made some cracking saves not letting the 5s get a goal. So, at halftime, the score was 0-0, and jelly snakes, jelly babies and satsumas were shared with a team in a very cheerful mood.

The second half started well with the same energy in the 6s as the first half. Vinnie hit a 16 out to Avi on the wing who ran it up to the D but unfortunately, the ball didn’t make it into the goal. The 5s then won a short which hit the backboard, but the 6s still have energy, with Eleanor and Georgia chasing the ball off the 5s. Liz made some great intercepts of the ball passing onto forwards Bex and Nicky who made great runs towards the d. After the 5s managed to hit May on the head with the ball they scored again (other than that May was always in the right place at the right time). Soon after the 5s scored a third goal, but the 6s did not give up. Lizzie went in for lots of tackles, often winning the ball but ending up on the floor once. Lou was strong in the midfield winning the ball and using Charlotte on the wing to advance up the pitch but the strong defence of the 5s proved tricky to break through.

At the end of the match, under a beautiful sunset, the 5s commented that it was the toughest match they have played this season, so the 6s should be extremely happy with their performance and improvement over the season.

Player of the match votes went to Vinnie, Harry, May and ultimately Claire won for her crucial yet epic saves as GK.

Lemon of the match votes went to May, Harry, Eleanor and Avi. Liz almost was voted lemon for being late as she was chatting with the opposition, but Lizzie was awarded lemon for running straight into Liz after subbing on and for falling over.
