Happy New Season

Lou Walker

For the first game of the season we welcomed back Sarah Holland in defence, and brand new players Holly Spencer (all the way from South Africa) up front, Charlotte Cartwright in midfield and Scarlett Bull joining her sister Elly in defence. South won the first push back, and off we went. The game started quite evenly, but Bishops Stortford eventually took the lead, thanks to some well paced runs and passes. South were not disheartened, and after the re-start we continued to gel together as a team, getting used to knowing where to position ourselves for our team mates. There were some great runs and interceptions by Georgia Grand on the left wing. Ruth Faherty and May McCool were having a busy day in defence and did a sterling job. Elly got in a few more of her impressive block tackles. Some excellent goalkeeping by Mia Rutherford kept out several shots and gave us a not too bad final scoreline. On a very hot day we were glad of our 4 subs to give everyone a breather.

Player of the match was Holly for excellent pace on her debut game. She worked hard throughout, and was unlucky not to score or assist, having some great linking play with Nicky and the other forwards.

Lemon votes included Lauren for losing a shoe mid-game and Scarlett for being too hung over to play the second half, but the citrus queen was Avi for accidentally bringing down an opponent rugby-style!
