We agreed last goal wins, didn't we??

Jan Brynjolffssen

A ten minute first half spell during which Cambridge City scored three goals was the difference between City and South respective Men’s 5th XIs.

The match was the first time the M5 had met our direct equivalents from the City club, but it was the visitors initially settled well into the game, moving the ball around well and creating chances. The pace of play began to wear the South down though, and that saw increased gaps between lines in the latter stages of the first half; City exploited this to win turnover ball high up the pitch that they converted into three quick strikes.

We attempted to reset at the break, and just about managed this though they did concede a fourth when a spell of prolonged City pressure resulted in a penalty stroke [must stop flattening kids]. We finally got on the scoreboards ourselves inside the last five minutes with the best goal of the game, a move down the left working the ball up to Andy, who surprised all by taking the shot early and unleashing a thunderbolt tomahawk reverse stick strike that fair flashed into the far corner before the City ‘keeper knew what was happening.
