Div 3!
Vicky O'BrienThe L4s had their first match in Division 3NW against Kettering 2s, who were contenders for promotion against South L3s last season. The game started well, with the 4s holding their own against the Kettering side. Possession went back and forth for much of the first half and the defence held strong against the Kettering attack. There were some strong breaks up the pitch from South but neither side was able to convert their chances and the half ended 0-0.
Having held off Kettering for the first half, South felt positive going into the second half of the game. However, Kettering came back strong from their half-time talk and managed to take advantage of a gap in the defence to score their first goal. Two more goals followed in quick succession leaving South playing catch-up. Kettering scored another from a short corner and a fifth goal followed to put paid to any hopes of a comeback from South.
Despite the disappointing score line, there were plenty of positives to take from the game with the opposition commenting that they had a tougher time than the score line would suggest. The team as a whole put in great performances reflected by 8 different players getting POM nominations. Honours were shared between Shree (for excellent defending), Hannah (for great interceptions) and Claudia (for great work in midfield). The votes for LOM were less evenly spread, with Katy winning by a decisive margin for demonstrating why she plays hockey and not a sport which involves any sort of throwing.
