L4s vs St Ives
Annabel FordeThe L4s went into their second match in Division 3NW feeling positive even though they were up against a tough St Ives 2 side (who last season were in the league above). The game started well, but an early short corner was conceded and saw St Ives take the advantage to go up 1-0. However, not long after, an excellent run forward from Charlotte saw South strike back with the ball passed in from Hannah then tapped into the goal by Lily. South’s defence held up strong for the rest of the first half with some great saves from Zoe. Despite this, two more short corners saw well rehearsed routines from St Ives pay off and at half time South were down 3-1.
However, as St Ives had only scored off set plays, South felt that a draw could be clawed back going into the second half of the game. The second half saw some great passing and runs from South and some good saves from the St Ives goalie. The defensive team managed to not concede any more shorts and no goals were scored by either side in the second half.
Despite the disappointing score line, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The team as a whole put in great performances reflected by 10 different players getting POM nominations. Honours were given to Katy for great runs and passes from midfield. The votes for LOM were less evenly spread, with Ginny winning by a decisive margin for passing the ball off the back line from a sixteen (however, she did do a beautiful spin at the same time!).
