Short corners galore!

First (technically) away game for the 6’s today, even if it was only down the road from our home pitch! Sun was shining, feeling good, wooo! Only a few minutes in and we had some brilliant saves from goalie Claire then, short corner. (Short corners are gonna be a recuring theme in this match report). But with some fantastic defending from May, Ruth and Lauren (also it was my first time in defence!) we kept it 0-0 for quite a while. Poor Ruth got a nasty winding from a stick to the stomach! Elly came on and was brilliant while poor Ruth was recovering.
Charlotte F, Alice and Georgia were smashing it in midfield, constantly trying to push it up to our forwards, Nicky, Pedzi and Eleanor who were doing so well getting it up to the D but just missing on that chance for goal. Then a short corner… then another short corner… and you guessed it ANOTHER short corner. But only 1 went in from some great saves and defending, even though we had 5 back-to-back short corners!!
First half ended 0-2 down from another short corner and a great shot from one of Cambridge Uni, but we kept spirits high and Joe was there to give us a good pep talk as we went into the second half.
Second half started then guess what? Another short corner about 3 minutes later! Elly became our second goalkeeper by saving a ball right between her thighs, earning her lemon of the match (even though it was very impressive)! Ruth came back on and was doing so well whilst pushing through getting a stick to the stomach. And Charlotte C was doing some great driving with the ball which got it up to Charlotte G (lots of Charlotte’s!) and our forwards who had some unlucky misses at the goal but still did so well! Although it was a loss, we still had a great time and POM went to our goalkeeper Claire who saved *so* many shots and absolutely killed it in goal.
