M1 1-1 St Ives Mens 1

Callum Middleton

So the boys in purple marched on to St Ives this weekend in an attempt to continue their winning ways.

Challenging conditions lay ahead with a pitch so treacherous nobodies Achilles was safe.

With the game underway, on a pitch made of old carpets and asbestos, the oppo did the best they could to hide any sort of home field advantage. Passes being sprayed off the side of the pitch not dissimilar from our warmup.

The first moment of note came in the form of a short corner for St Ives. I’m not sure what it was given for, but the umpire was definitely wrong.  A decent flick from a decent flicker opened the scoring: 1-0 to the home team.

Shortly after conceding Schu transformed into a prime Iniesta, Harry Lewis into prime David Villa and Sam… well didn’t get in the way… some fantastic passing and moving culminated in Schu driving the baseline and finding Harry Lewis for a tap in even he couldn’t miss. 1-1

Half time came and went with Sam spouting his usual “This is Ours lads”.

The second half was a rather dull affair with neither team really taking the game by the scruff of the neck. A long ball was hopefully played forward with a response of “I’m so F*****g slow” (Humby et al,. 2022).

The most exciting moment of the period was gifted via a ball across the top of oppositions D, which was greeted with an absolute caning of a first touch strike by Ed. If he’d put it anywhere but at the 'keeper it surely would’ve secured the 3 points.

The dying embers of the game cried out for a hero to rise above the rest and provide that little bit of quality the fans so desperately needed. Unfortunately nobody fancied the glory and the game came to a timely end.

A challenging away day on a challenging pitch leading to a very challenging watch. Final score 1-1
