A Tactical Review of the L2s
Rebecca FrithSome may think of the ups and downs and silly moments of today were rather shambolic. But I dare you to take a different view.
In my opinion the L2's match was a masterclass in tactical gameplay which saw some frankly inspired tactics being brought into play. Tactics employed by the L2s included:
- sitting on the goalie to give your teammates a chance to score. Sophie Hodgkinson - 8/10 tactical genius
- bending over to "shake the frustration out of our heads" at half time. Nichola Fennel 9/10 tactical genius
- preparing for a match against St Ives next week by pretending that today's opposition were St Ives. Rebecca Frith - 6/10 tactical genius
- taking out a speedy young player in the opposition by hooking her ankle. "big fat bully lemon" Rebecca Frith - 8/10 tactical genius. (don't worry. she was okay. I checked)
- leaving your phone in a vulnerable position on the side-line to get broken. Jess Foord 1/10 tactical genius ... but with a broken phone you have no distraction and can focus 100% on hockey this week - 6/10 tactical genius
- card avoidance. Rebecca Frith - 9/10 tactical genius, didn't go a player down
- losing your rag at the umpire in the first place. Rebecca Frith – (-5)/10 tactical genius = +5 stupidity
- thieving a goal from your teammate on the line. Maddy Twining - 7/10 tactical genius. (got to make sure it goes in!)
- throwing an unexpected squarial - Jennifer Taylor 10/10 tactical genius, gotta keep the opposition guessing. if we don't know where it's going, neither do they
- screaming "I've got it!" as loud as you can before sweeping the ball, Jess's stick and some Long Sutton pride into the goal - Hannah Snow 10/10 tactical genius, gotta make sure everyone knows who scored. besides scoring goals is probably a good tactic?
- scoring more goals - Jess, Cait 10/10 tactical geniuses
- not giving away a SINGLE short corner against us - defence + Loopy 10/10 tactical geniuses
- some very questionable short corners -.... genius? keeps them guessing? besides if we were perfect there'd be nothing to do at training and Tuesday nights would be boring. Everyone - 2/10 tactical genius
- exclaiming "it's so sticky!" at teas. Jess Foord - not so genius, 1/10. we are never going to let that go lol
- beautiful square balls to switch sides. Defence and midfield 20/10 tactical geniuses
- huge work rate from to win every 50-50 ball. Everyone - 20/10 tactical geniuses
So there you go. Overall a great game with some genius tactics at play. We dominated and really showed why we are in the league that we're in. A crowded D and some questionable short-corners probably stopped us scoring more than we should have, but 4-0 is still a great goal difference and everyone should be so pleased.
Well deserved spread of PoM votes with Cait taking the win and Sophie in close second.
Long Sutton were lovely opponents, hopefully they have shaken off their injuries. Thank you so much to the umpires. (Especially Matt who doubled up and also umpired the L1s. Hugely appreciated. sorry for shouting at you, thanks for not giving me a card xxx)
Cait Fisher
Creating amazing opportunities and passes, running all over the pitch! Overall smashing girl 10/10 would recommend to a friend
