It’s coming home

Ahead of the World Cup the Cambridge South Ladies 1s decided to dedicate this match report to Jack Grealish.

Following the past 2 matches the Cambridge South ladies were ‘due a performance’ according to manager Gareth Southgate (Alice Wright). To Cambridge souths luck Jack Grealish decided to join the squad this Saturday, headbanded and ready to get stuck in. After an intense synchronised warm up the squad rolled out of the tunnel and began a World Cup worthy practice prior to the match.

The squad had decided; it’s coming home!

Whistle blows, the game commences.

Working together the squad made some cracking connections. The first half though 0-0 was dominated by south, with some beautiful play seen across the pitch.

Half time was blown, Channelling Harry Kane Kate came in with an inspiring team talk.

The second half whistle blew.

South came out in force, putting pressure on every ball and making some brilliant connections up front. Finally South’s big break came. a penalty, Kate took the ball slapping it in for Jess Read to get a deflection, unfortunately the ref had difficulty believing the ball had gone 5 and decided to take away the ‘controversial’ goal. Spurred on by this scorn the team continued to make some great interceptions and connections scoring a goal from an exceptional deflection from Lizzie.

At around half way of the second half Grealish had an opportunity after intercepting a loose ball. Grealish passed it onto Lizzie who continued the run and headed to goal. A save from the goalie. Grealish was fast approaching the now rebounded ball managing to get a touch to continue running. By which point the goalie was on the floor, Grealish slipped injuring the goalie above the pads and earning Lemon.

2 minutes was called and South gained a short. The final whistle was blown. All players surrounded the D. A clean routine from the squad: a surprise right side stick stop, touch right, P and a deflection from Jenny (Ed: the deflection from Jess R was definitely going in by itself, I was just so excited to be so close to goal that I had to help it over the line) into the goal, making the final score 2-0.

Man of the Match Anna for brilliant defensive work and Lemon Grealish (his first and last appearance)
