Press Release

South 5ths have made a Jekyll and Hyde start to 2023 as they followed up being held to a disappointing draw on the first match of the New Year by putting in arguably their performance of the season to beat promotion chasers Spalding 3-2.

South played a much slicker and faster game than they had the previous weekend, and needed to against properly useful opponents. The standout performers included many of the teams teenagers, with Player-of-the-Match James Talmage particularly standing out as he belied his tender years to put in a superbly composed but also highly athletic performance in midfield. Fellow teenager Kieran Birch was also on fine form further up the pitch.

South goals came from more experienced campaigners though, Rob Barton notching numbers 455 and 456 of his club career, whilst Simon Jelley weighed in with his 22nd in club colours, netted in 200+ games for South.
