Dusting off the Christmas Cobwebs
Elly BullAfter an extended Christmas break for the L6s, we finally returned to the pitch to face top-of-the-league St Ives 3s. The match got off to a tense start, with St Ives scoring two goals in just a matter of minutes. Despite this minor setback, the Sixes quickly warmed up and proved to be a worthy opponent. St Ives pressed hard but the Sixes pushed back with enthusiasm, much to St Ives frustration (and a couple of warnings from the umpires). Claire C valiantly defended the goal, protecting it from many attempted goals with her ninja-like keeping skills. Unfortunately the first half ended 4-0 in St Ives favour.
After a rousing half-time pep talk, the Sixes returned to the pitch with renewed enthusiasm. Debutant Sophie D showed off her newly-learnt skills by winning a couple of tough tackles and gaining the Sixes an opportunity to capitalise on the complacency of St Ives’ defence. Fliss R-S made a perfectly aimed cross into the D to Nicky S, who earned the Sixes a phenomenal goal. Sadly, a couple of well-rehearsed short corners from St Ives increased their lead, and the match ended 7-1 to the 5NW leaders.
Claire Cormie
Saved so many goals today that she even saved one with her crotch.
Fliss Robertson-Shore
In such a hurry to get to teas that she left her stick on the pitch.
