Park the bus
Kate Dixon*Park the bus*
A phrase often used to describe our defending. A gritty winning performance, even if we did park the bus.
After all hockey frozen for nearly 2 weeks, pre match checks were taken care of. Jess Woodhouse (MOM and the come back queen), ensuring all hands were model friendly (Jenny the only one to pass the test) and bibs to ensure no opposition were to come within 2 meters of us. We smelled ready.
We got off to a positive start, moving the ball nicely around the Norwich city defence, showing patience and composure. With near misses and hopeful chances, we finally got the break through around 20 minutes in with a great team goal. Great build up play with speed from Lucia (sass Queen), more quick legs and a great ball across the D from Emma (MOM and probably off the back of a night shift), and deflected in by Maddy (our new social media sec).*
We kept working hard as a team, shuttling back and forward, hoping for another goal. Half time 1-0.
Norwich City came back fighting in the second half, throwing everything into it, including themselves through us, or in some cases onto the floor every 5 minutes (she really should get that knee seen to).
Cries of park the bus were heard (as well as Issy being mean). Anna (MOM and banned from doing the worm) and Kim (soon to fall off the bus) thrive on the bus. Both stepping up to everything that came their way. With Katie and Jenny there to sweep things up and clear out for hopeful break. Kim’s heroics were sadly ended too soon, after a slip and a trip to a&e (elbow no more).
Norwich city kept pushing on, but the bus was too hard to move and Loopy was there to make sure of it.
Full time 1-0 and another 3 points.
Here’s to more double headers and parking the bus.
*no idea if this is how it happened, I had my back to the goal..
