L6s: coming to a cinema near you
Fliss Robertson-ShoreThe L6’s headed down to Latham Road pitch in The Shining sun for a leisurely 12:30 push back, ensuring everyone had gotten rid of The Hangover from Friday night . Luckily for once the pitch wasn’t Frozen so we all felt like we were Walking on Sunshine. Fliss seemly wanted to be a part of Wisbech 3’s as she came sporting a lovely allergic reaction in support of the players in black and red.
The Usual Suspects; Sophie, Mia, Sarah, Ruth, Claire and Laura lined up in defence unaware that they were about to get Tangled up with Wisbech’s Rocky attacking players and with our POM Elly moving up from defence to centre-mid, a position that certainly didn’t seem Alien to her, our match got off to a Fast and Furious start with Wisbech winning first pushback.
Claire was The Greatest Showman as short corner after short corner failed to send her into La La Land but we were left feeling like it was Groundhog Day trapsing back to the half way line again and again. Mamma Mia! Here she goes again we would say as Mia ran straight towards the striker during these short corners, applying the pressure needed for us to win the ball back a couple of times where Vinnie had Good Will, Hunting down the ball time and time again even though we were 3-0 down and never Lost the faith.
In the first half both captains were called over by the umpires because of the large amount of stick tackling however The Young Offenders calmed down after their warning.
Was the Pitch Perfect? Maybe but Charlotte must have thought it felt like Grease! as she was voted runner up LOM of the match for falling over herself several times!
We were feeling in a Hot Fuzz at half time but at least the weather held out so we weren’t Singing In The Rain. With some calming words from the Titanic Chris we were ready to tackle what felt like Mission Impossible again, as we stepped out like 12 Angry Men (-1 and – the Men).
In the second half the ball bounced around the Jaws of the attacking goal a couple of times with Niki and Polly making a fabulous attempt with our only short corner of the game. Polly had stepped up from the 5’s which I Love, Actually and really helped us in The Pursuit of Happiness for a goal.
Ruth was everywhere and like The Gladiator seemed to stop Wisbech in their tracks at the 22 more times than we can count; Absolutely Fabulous play.
Pedzi, Charlotte and Alice were in A League of Their Own, gaining some fabulous distance down the left hand side however Wisbech’s Die Hard defence was Too Hot to Handle and by the end of the second half we had conceded two more goals, leaving us 0-6 down.
We’re all Grown Ups so we shook hands secretly plotting How to Get away with Murder but then realised it didn’t matter as we invited Wisbech to Come Dine With Me and set aside our differences over teas.
Our casualties of the match were Laura and Alice, with Laura taking a swing to the Clavicle and Alice taking a ball to the Leg however they resisted the urge to Scream and carried on with Brave-heart(s). Laura went on to win LOM as she also went to the wrong pitch first but hey! Just Go With It, it didn’t stop her from making it on time to help her F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
At the end of the day, It’s A Wonderful Life so the score doesn’t really matter, but be ready for next time we’re going to be Victorious.
