Spalding 2s – a hard-won draw
Becky DonaldsonThe L4s had suffered a loss last time at Spalding and this Saturday a couple of our key players were in other matches meaning the remaining team were not feeling optimistic. We were, however, very excited by the return of Ellie and Claudia and their return made a huge difference to our side.
Whilst Spalding started strong, Ellie’s solid defending at the back and Zoe’s excellent saves kept them at bay. Our midfield started to feed the ball through well with Katy doing excellent work in the middle as ever but our forwards were having no luck tapping it in.
Spalding got frustrated but still couldn’t get it in the goal, meaning half time passed 0-0.
Spalding came back strong in the second half with Nicole and Vicky playing well and Laurie making herself very useful at the top of the diamond. An incredible backstick flick from them went over Zoe and into the goal, putting Spalding up 1-0.
South retaliated from this goal with force. We dominated their D in the second half, with many scrambles that just couldn’t get over the line. Finally, Mo scored an excellent goal off a short corner, earning us the draw.
We continued to hog their half in the closing minutes of the game, except for a nervous couple of short corners in the past five minutes. The L4s have been scarred by recent, frustrating last minute losses. Was this to be repeated? NOPE! Our defence kept the ball out of our goal and the whistle blew a draw.
POM went to Vicky for some fantastic defending whilst LOM went to Becky for failing at her new washing machine and setting the timer delay to start the wash just before she had to leave for the match.
