M2 3-3 City of Peterborough Mens 4
Ed CreedyWith captain Puds once again M.I.A. (does he even play hockey anymore!?) and with the squad hoping to erase memories of a bleak day trip to Kettering last weekend, the M2s geared up for a home tie against Peterborough 4s.
VC John took the wheel once more as the team looked to reverse a few stuttering results and return to winning ways. The game got off to a good start with some sharp attacking play leading to a free hit outside the Peterborough D inside the first minute. A savvy, crisp pass from forward Creedy back to the defensive line has been unjustly misrepresented as a rookie error - and you really can’t blame home for conceding 60 yards of possession when there’s 4 defenders back there. Lemon was unjustly secured early doors.
From then on South tightened things up and began to pepper the Peterborough goal. A few smart saves from keeper Stanley kept them quiet on the counter, and two quick goals from captain John West had us 2-0 up at half time. (Who even needs Puds anymore?)
Things were all going South’s way, and confidence was high at half time. Not too sure who said what in the half time team talk but a completely different South 11 emerged for the final 35, and we found found ourselves inexplicably 3-2 down pretty quickly. Not quite sure where they all came from to be honest.
As the game drew to a close Jim poached a savvy third goal, tying things up with just minutes left. Patel and Ethan continued to flood down the wings and rile up the Peterborough defence, but ultimately things ended honours even.
Some real positives to taken into the final few weeks of the season, despite some frustrations at letting a good position slip. A welcome return for Colin T to the matchday squad (a wonder run in the closing stages only cruelly cut off on the opposition’s 23) and some good efforts all round, time to kick on for the final few games of the season and finish strong.
