WINNER WINNER

Camille Cantle

A slightly delayed start and possible LOM to Camille (and her Mum!) for only remembering half way through the first half of the match that they were responsible for the match report!

So … a flying leap tackle by Alex straight through the middle of two March players to continue her run with the ball. Lots of effort and time spent near our attacking goal but not quite into the net until … goal by Alex, yay!

The ball yo-yoed from attack to defence. With some great defending by Avi, followed by some massive runs up the wings.

A short corner awarded for March, followed by another short corner, both denied due to great defending by Sélène and Avi.

Another corner for March, great save by Avi, followed by another short for March … fab tackling by Rebecca to get the ball away, the following shot well deflected by goalie Sélène.

We played the ball back up to our attacking end, and tried for another goal which unfortunately missed. Great tackling again by Becca and back up towards our goal with continued attack from Hattie and Becky.

Strong tactics talk at half time.

Refreshed and immediately play was at our end with a near goal for us. Play continued with March getting the ball down to their end. Some great pressure from Vicki to fight off March’s attempt at a goal followed by a great save from Sélène.

Excitement built as Camille ran and passed into the D with 2 near goals from Holly. Great tackling by Nicky, led to a corner awarded to us, a quick team talk, set up and a great goal! Nicky set up a powerful strike to the far right post, with an amazing tapped deflection into the goal securely by Holly. Textbook.

Good pressure in attack was maintained throughout, with lots of strong tackling by Hattie to keep the ball in our attacking half. Meanwhile Sarah defended her post brilliantly, four more ‘almost’ goals. (She doesn't mind - she had a hattrick recently!) So close and well tried all!

Throughout the game the press remained strong, forcing March to make passes which were picked up by midfielders, ultimately causing them to pass wider and run the ball down the pitch instead. Half backs Polly, Vicki and Avi swiftly slowed them down and often won the ball, redistributing back and round.

The ball worked its way up to the March end despite great pressure from Polly. Another corner to March, deflected mid air by Louisa, and then moved further away by Avi. Great team playing!

Back in attack, a great reverse shot on goal by Nicky passed neatly from Hattie. Then there was another almost goal from Alex but unfortunately it was deflected away. March took the ball back to their end but Elly and Becca defended brilliantly and brought it straight back to our midfield and attack.

Two further almost goals from Hattie, though one gaining us an attacking short corner. Great tactics applied with Nicky pushing a strong shot, narrowly missing the goal for a brilliant deflection off the post, sadly missing the conversion.

The ball back came into our defence. Again, strong tackling from Vicki, but resulting in yet another short corner to March. The whistle was blown to signal the end of the time, just as another corner had begun. We knew we'd won! Though in this last minute a goal was gained for March.

Final score 2-1 with brilliant play from South, well done team!

Our main take away from this; the majority of play was in and around our attacking half, showing that we dominated play. As we were politely reminded by the umpire, we must remember the 5m rule!

POM nominations were spread across the whole team, and some to the whole team, reflecting the effort and play of everyone.

Shout outs went to Holly (beautiful goal), Avi (strong defence and redistributing), Rebecca (amazing defensive work!), Becky (brilliant drives up the right wing), Sélène (awesome saves and kicks!), Louisa (lovely midfield play).

Our POM award went to Alex, for fantastic determination and hard work in midfield, as well as her first South goal!

Lemon votes were fewer, ultimately being awarded to Alex for leading a bit of midfield subbing mishap.

Congratulations Alex, our third PLOM of the season!
