L6s Biggest Win of the Season...So Far...

Saturday 18th March, 3pm, Long Road. The L6s were up against Long Sutton and we were ready to achieve our biggest win this season! St Paddy’s day on Friday – enough said haha but still there we were raring to go on the side-lines.

The air did change as Georgia walked in with her new Astros on, were they going to perform? Were they going to stand the fast-paced game we were about to play? Did they get the approval of not only Georgia but the team? Keep reading to find out how she rates them… Talking of shoes Fliss was preparing to play in her sliders as she’d accidentally trapped every pair of shoes she owned in a locked cupboard….don’t panic however, a nifty job with a screwdriver sorted that problem out but also earned her LOM before the match had even started.

The afternoon pushback meant there was time for the worst of the rain to subside however rain = slippy astro and slippy astro = falling over… which was in fact caught on camera and is available to laugh at on the L6s Instagram.

Long Sutton won first pushback but South quickly gained possession of the ball and let me tell you from then on we went from strength to strength. Mia and Fliss were dominating the right hand side managing some fabulous runs in order to pass the ball to Nicky for our first goal!

Nicky as always was fabulous! Strong and determined she achieved a hattrick with three incredible goals during the game but that’s just another Saturday for our amazing centre forward. With Pedzisai, Eleanor and Esther assisting nothing was stopping the L6 ladies now.

We were 3-0 up at half time with Sélène confiding ‘I’m not doing very much’ in the defending goal but we all knew she was doubling up for the 5s so had decided to give her a break from goalie duties.

A little halftime Haribo moment gave us all the pep in our step we needed, with Chris reminding Fliss to STOP trying to tackle her own team mates (sorry Mia!) and then we were back to it.

Georgia and Eleanor were working incredibly hard in the second half, both seemingly everywhere and never letting Long Sutton have possession of the ball for too long.

Laura and Sophie were also both having a GREAT game; Laura deftly controlling the ball up the left hand side providing us with scoring opportunity again and again and Sophie really came into her own defending the socks off Long Sutton - Coach Chris’s vote for POM being Sophie (and the whole team who he is incredibly proud of).

After returning from injury our own Lou is still as amazing as ever. Calm under pressure and nimble with the ball she never seemed to tire and was always there to support. No subbing for Lou as she pushed the VO2 max but if anyone needs an air bed blowing up this amazing women will now have the lung capacity for it! Working hard alongside our wonderful Esther the ball was never not in the D!

Eleanor and Nicky came through both managing a goal in the second half beautifully assisted by the whole team taking our total to 5! Fliss falling flat on her back and Mia running into the wall on three separate occasions also took place in the second half – light entertainment always comes with a 6’s match so everyone should get down to support more often J

In the last 5 minutes our incredible defensive back Ruth Faherty swapped to a forwards position having had an absolutely brilliant game and making some fantastic stops! But before she could score a goal time was called and the game was finished!

Our fourth week undefeated and our largest score to date!

POM and LOM went to Fliss – bittersweet as this is the last match I’ll play for the L6’s but as always it’s been a pleasure.

Being a part of a team of such inspiring women is amazing, sorry not sorry when I say my hockey team is better than yours.

Now to Big G’s Astros, the moment we have all been waiting for, 11:24pm Saturday night the message comes through…’10/10 would buy again. They have made my feet a lot more comfortable. Being that they’re my size.’ Readers I can tell you I slept soundly knowing that information and in fact the shoes were okay.
