The drought is over - a poem by Maddy Twyning
Maddy Twyning14 brave cowboys embarked on the desert of long road.
Tumbleweeds rolled across and the wind, it blowed.
But on this sunny spring day, we had not a shred of doubt
Today is the day to end the 6 game goal-drought.
The energy was high, enjoying some pre-game bantz
We had the wind in our bingo wings and lucky purple pants.
The sun was shining but the forecast predicts,
Sunny intervals and some goals for these chicks.
Questionable hype music as we warmed up our joints,
Ready and raring to snatch those 3 juicy points.
On to the pitch, where is Sarah? She is late.
Come on babygirls - a great team talk from Kate.
The whistle blows and we take St Neots by shock.
With a break towards goal with just 10 seconds on the clock.
Laura in the D, the ball in the back of the net.
THE DROUGHT IS OVERRR, ITS TIME TO GET WET.
Opportunities were had and the team was so connected.
And with Boo in our goal, it remained protected.
St Neots defence were sending aerials into flight.
All intercepted by Alice – she always gets it Wright.
In the second half we were feeling pretty bombastic,
Fuelled by Kate’s team talk and a cheeky Tangfastic
Perfect passing, leading runs, like a training drill.
When Lucia smacks it top D to make it 2 – 0.
A very optimistic St Neots had some confusion,
Claiming a goal? was it a mirage? An optical illusion?
A huge team effort saw Lucia zip round the sweeper,
Passing to Maddy and straight past the keeper.
Sarah’s committed to Camb South a little too hard,
Taking one for the team, and getting herself a green card.
A final goal by Laura – a reverse volley smack,
Hitting the backboard with a glorious crack.
The drought finally over post refreshing goal-irrigation,
Have we done enough to avoid relegation?
A great game and a big load of fun.
Then to sit with our pizzas and pints in the sun.
