Final Game

Mia Rutherford

The 6’s had their final game against Wisbech today and oh MY a lot happened! You may be thinking I got myself lemon because I’m writing the match report but it’s actually because a certain defender *cough* RUTH *cough* was so kind that she let me write it, what a sweetie.

Ruth decided to let us know after the votes that she’d ‘never had lemon’ but with her rocking up after pushback even though she was meant to be in the starting XI definitely earned her lemon (even though she did some absolutely fantastic defending and runs in the short corners).

Also, I’m heartbroken to say we FORGOT the lemon crown in the kit bag so no photos on insta (hint hint @cshcladies6 if you wanna go follow us) but let’s move on to the actual game.

We started brilliantly! 2 goals in about 5 minutes from our amazing goal queen Nicky and a second from Charlotte G! Charlotte hasn’t played in agesssss and she came back with a mission, what a lovely goal! She picked up the ball, sped away through acres of space and into the D with just the goalie to beat, and coolly tucked into the net.

To be honest with you, you know when you zone out and go into autopilot... yeah, I did that, so the whistle blew and I was in the world of my own with the ball, the whistle went and the biggest scream came out of this Wisbech girl from a nasty knee twist which paused the game for a while. (Wisbech if you’re reading this, we hope she’s okay xxx).

With an own goal from South then another smack from Wisbech, it was 2-2 but we kept our hopes high at half time with a help from a sugar rush of haribo’s. We then started with 10 players on the pitch… erm I don’t really know how that happened, but we managed to figure everything out.

Any who so we carried on, but we think South got a little curse from Big G who bought her ‘bad losing luck’ as Ruth described it because somehow, we were drawing with Wisbech… then losing. Maybe Big G is an unlucky omen or maybe we just felt bad that we’d won 4/4 and wanted to give Wisbech a win but either way we tried to keep our spirits and moral high.

(G if you’re reading this, we’re only joking we missed you very very much today and thank you and Coach Sarah for coming to support us *mwah*)

Laura, Sarah, Sophie, and Ruth were having a great game at the back with Sophie getting a few well-deserved POM nominations for great clears and solid defending and Laura and Sarah keeping great pressure on the speedy reds even in those maybe not deserved short corners (but we won’t talk about that). And as always, our ‘daddy longlegs’ GK Claire was saving left right and centre.

Esther was killing it down the line honestly that girl can run I need some lessons I was half dead from doing a few sprints! Lou as always fabulous. Charlotte C was back with us (and her stunning car ooo I want that when I’m older) and she was darting right through the wall of red. Alice who was put in a new position of defence! Smashed it as always even though it’s not her normal position.

Ceri (who I hadn’t actually met to this day because I joined the 6’s while she was out living her best life travelling) turned up quite hungover but she sure did make a fabulous first impression for me and a great first game back with her lovely tan (honestly why do I look pale as a ghost). And Leonie (who I also met for the first time today) was everywhere all the time!

Sticks were dropped, shoulders were barged into, falls happened but we kept pushing. Some unlucky misses on goal from South and some attitude from Wisbech about ref’s decisions. My favourite comment from a Wisbech player was when I said, “I’ve got the ball’ and she swiped it clean off me and went ‘no you don’t loser’ which I did actually die laughing from fair play to her.

Overall, our 4/4 win streak was unfortunately broken with a 2-4 loss but we had some lovely teas and cake from Lou that came with a beautiful crown for Nicky, our queen goal scorer!

POM went to the fabulous Eleanor for excellent run-on’s, great play and just being everywhere all the time! Or as one of our vote papers said, ‘I just remember saying yes Eleanor a lot’. Smashed it El J!

6’s it’s been a pleasure playing with you this season thank you for taking me in and teaching me how to be an outfield player I’ve had a lovely time getting to know you all and can’t wait for next season (which I’m now staying for!)

Enough of the sappy stuff that’s me done for the match report until next season x
