We started the game with Peterborough’s possession. Early on they drove it down our half and got a few shots off and won a short corner. However, we defended and retained possession for a while and got a shot off at their keeper. Unfortunately, a bit later we had a series of short corners, some saved by me, and some blocked by the runners. I think this is where we got worn out and then they scored on open play with a pass from the left side to the back post for a tap in. After this we started to lose our momentum and just a few minutes later Peterborough score through a short corner. They score a few minutes later from open play. Then there’s another short corner from Peterborough but is blocked by Sean running. Then there’s another goal from a powerful shot at the right of the D. Their last goal in this half was a deflection from an unmarked man behind our line of defence.
Overall, in this half I think the main issue was our communication, I should have been more vocal, and we needed to talk more and mark players better.
This was shown in the second half a lot better; we started with the possession, and we were moving around a lot more and got a shot off at the keeper, saved. We then win a short corner but can’t score. But we retain possession and take another shot but is saved again. They win possession and attack our half again; they win a short. But well blocked by Will. A couple of minutes later, they win another short and Sean blocks. Unfortunately, they win a few more shorts. The first one they couldn’t get a shot off. The next one Shahzad blocks the shot well. But on the last one Sean got a green card so Baz took his place in the last short. Nothing amounted from that and the final whistle was blown.
Overall, we played significantly better in the second half, and it would have been a much more even sided game had we played like that in the first. I ended up getting Man of the match for some of my saves. However, I also got lemon as I had a grump at the end of the first half!
