Hockey is not a summer sport!
Shree ThirumalaikumarThe L4s arrived at Long Road, ready for our first game as a squad. With a lovely mix of new and old faces (as well as some welcome loans from the 5s) we got started.
Obviously being a fresh squad the first few minutes were tense as we all tried to find our feet and figure out how everyone fit together - but soon enough we were flying! Good communication, quick passes and strong tackles all round meant we got a good few attempts on goal.
Sadly goalless at half time, but very very warm we regrouped with some sweets and much needed water. Nicky earned LOM after needing Rosie to re-attach an escaped sports bra strap!
The second half began at pace - a lovely series of passes, all the way from a free hit in our defensive area led to our first goal from Mo, whose excellent play throughout the game earned her POM! Although post strike she did end up on the floor, earning her a LOM vote too.
Bury soon equalized however, but we kept going.
We score twice more in this half - one from a stunning strike on a short from Nicky, and another from a quick turn and strike from Naomi G!
Bury scored again, bringing it to 3-2 and then equalised in the last minute of the game, really taking advantage of our tired legs.
All in all - a lovely afternoon of hockey and a great start to the season (and a lesson in making sure you have more than one sub if the weather forecast is above 20 degrees)
Nicky Perry
For her escaping bosom! (Slightly exaggerated, but failing bra strap sounded less catchy!)
