Sunny Sudbury

Will Townley

On possibly the hottest day of the year, in stark contrast to our visit a few years ago where we had sideways sleet/snow, the M1s traveled to Sudbury.

There would only be one hero today, not the hero we deserve but the hero we need, being a predominantly ginger team, it was going to be sun cream... but what type would be a big choice today.

Ed: Malibu (factor 15)
No complaining from Ed today, he was in his element and well prepared with a good base coat of Malibu. Hammering it home early in the game off a short to put us 1-0 up.

Sudbury equalised and then went 2-1 up.

Humby: Nivea clear spray (factor 30)
Another hungry day for humby as he used his clear spray sun cream to ghost into the D. After the ball hit a defender's foot, humby was alert and smacked the ball against the backboard to put us level.

Sudbury went 3-2 up off a short.

Nik: Piz Buin (factor 30)
Nik knows how to look after his skin and only accepts the best, Piz Buin. It paid off today as Nik popped up in the D and instinctively lobbed one into the net after it came up off a defender following Connor's shot. A great goal (although, you've got to work on your celebrations Nik!).

Harry L: Hawaiian tropic (factor 30)
Rocking up in one of his 10 pairs of flip flops, Harry was in his prime today channeling the Hawaiian vibes. Using this Hawaiian confidence paid off late in the game, picking a mid-air aerial and smashing it top bins to put us 4-3 up and win the game.

Henry: Nivea squeezy bottle (factor 50)
Crucial for Henry to be active, all over the pitch today with incredible work rate he needs a squeezy bottle to keep topping up throughout each quarter.

Tim: borrowed Henry's (snakey behavior)
Sneakily Tim forgot his suncream today and needed to borrow some (knowing how crucial it would be today). It paid off for Tim who played his socks off all over the park today, showing his versatility by playing in many different positions.

Roselli-McKenzie: Sports performance suncream (including zinc)
Tom knows more than anyone the importance of sun cream. A connoisseur who knows when its worth the investment making sure it includes the vital ingredient, Zinc.

Connor: P20 (factor 50)
Having not experienced much sun from growing up in Northern Ireland, Connor is a prepared man. Only P20 will cut it, some serious sun cream for a serious player.

Shoey: no sun cream
Shoey knows what he's doing, tactically getting a base tan in Greece (aka tanning beds) in preparation for today's game. Confidently explaining how people should watch out to see his tan lines in the showers post game.

Sam: no sun cream
As with the kit bag, I imagine Sam would have forgotten to bring/put on suncream today. This also resulted in Sam taking home the infamous lemon clock today.

Ethan: Garnier Ambre Solaire (factor 30)
Another of the team who is sporting a tan from a trip abroad. Using leftover lotion from the holiday I reckon Ethan gets the good stuff (possibly bought while on holiday).

Mark: Soltan kids (factor 50)
Mark is a busy man and one of the team's resident dads. I reckon this morning was a quick scramble for sun cream, which resulted in Mark grabbing the first thing he saw and led to borrowing his son's sun cream.

Max: no sun cream
Max did not need suncream today, not because of all the keeping kit but because of his Spanish blood and claims to have never been sunburnt. A bold claim but that's the kind of confidence we need and it showed with some of his saves today.

Will: Tesco Soleil (factor 30)
Nothing fancy from me today (in terms of hockey and sun cream), but I knew how important sun cream would be. Very happy to be back to winning ways after a couple of defeats and proud of the boys for (mostly) looking after their skin.

All these (predicted) choices helped the team pull off a great win to cap off our pre season. 4-3 in the end, a good game for the lads managing to keep the heat on until the very end.
