A winning end to pre-season

Anna Latham

From sweltering 30 degree heat to more manageable Monday evening weather in Hitchin, the L2s started the game off strong holding possession and working together as a team to put pressure on the Hitchin forward line. They broke through a couple of times but Zoe made sure the ball didn’t get past her. One ball however got through with Anna clearing it within mm’s of the line - solid effort! The defence of Hayley, Meleni, Rhian, Jenny and Anna transferred the ball to our mids of Hannah, Sophie, Cait and Izzy who controlled the middle of the pitch passing between them to work to ball up to Jess, Rhi and Emily.

South worked brilliantly as a team with lovely triangles and passing ahead of our players to run onto! Rhi D assisted Jess’ goal who went round the keeper and scored from the baseline. 1-0 up to South! What quarter that was in I couldn’t tell you but the first half ended 1-0!

Second half the legs started to get tried and formation fell to the wayside but with encouragement from Rebecca on the sideline we held it together. There were a few tumbles, the “uncontrolled” rule, but everyone played brilliantly - even our communication was on point!

Having not played in a while (in my defence haha) a bad tackle was made outside the D and I was sent off in the last 2 minutes…even with 10 players Blueharts couldn’t get a goal and the game finished 1-0! A great last friendly game and onwards and upwards going into the league!
