City start to the season

Anne-Marie Bowring

First league game of the season. We were prepared. Or so we thought. Anne-Marie didn't even know how long a half of hockey was, for which she earnt lemon and this match report. Everything started well, we were holding them off and had most of the possession.
But we let our guard down and dropped our heads after the first goal and then bam bam bam another three from the opposition, despite some amazing saves from Zoe. They were all lucky ones after scrabbles in the D. We'd lost our structure after we took Rebecca's instructions of frequent subbing a little bit too literally (she didn't mean continuously!), at least we weren't too tired so could go into the second half strong. We kept our structure much better, had a few chances and held them off to concede no goals in the second half. All things considered a good start to the season with plenty to work on. Hayley had thankfully recovered from a potential broken thumb last week to get joint player of the match with Emma for their solid defence and distribution up the pitch. Emma also nearly got joint lemon for not realising she was last year's player of the season!
