Have you ever seen a nuclear missile?
Oscar Wilson-ToyAfter winning both pre-season games, the 3s began the season with the early push back hoping to
continue their form. A 15-strong side thanks to misuse of Google sheets already gave them the
upper hand over an already tired looking St Ives, only 21 games more for them to go.
A shaky opening few minutes as the 3s looked to atone for a below-standards performance in the
week’s training session and instead giving away an early chance. But once the game had settled, the
midfield started to assert dominance and St Ives struggled to bypass the pressing forwards. An early
goal from Jack after another successful high press and him going to work on the keeper gave South a
huge confidence boost and St Ives their first opportunity to moan at the umpires.
From here on, it was all South, a second from Jack; Gando’s first goal of the match after blazing an
earlier chance well over the bar and a mazy run from Matteo sent the 3s four nil up at half time.
The game only got easier in the second half, using the 4 subs well. A seasoned striker’s finish from
Shin, another outrageous goal from Matteo; and Gando picking up his second and then his hat trick
off a flick won by Ash. I can’t be certain, but I think one of the defenders scored, unsure who.
Leading to a 9-0 victory, with South only feeling they could’ve made it double digits.
Easing into the season, Jo will feel he should have his match fees refunded and Adam’s match
highlights consist of regular meetings with the umpires regarding Gando and St Ives’ whining. Don’t
ask Ash how he eats his pizza, otherwise a rather good start.
And it was my birthday.
