BOM of the match
Harry LustyThe match started in what seemed to be a colder climate than the weekend before, how wrong we were. As the temperature rose so did the anticipation of the first league match of the season. Feilding a slightly different squad we were all excited to get back on the pitch. The game started and the L5s held possession of the ball utilising the open channels provided by our mids – Beth, Harry, Vinnie, and Fi. Nomads having few breaks were stopped immediately by the strong defensive moves of Vicky, Julie and Polly. Avi heading up the defence held a strong position in the middle helping distribute the ball – earning her POM.
By half time the 5s were 0-1 up! Out forwards, Rittman, Mo and Helen working hard but Nicky with the reverse chip into the goal. We were now raring to go after a refuelling on skittles and Tangfastics. However, with the sun beating down the heat started to get to us and with a breakout from a Nomad striker they scored an on-field goal. Gutted as we were we rally to try and force the opposition back, with only 2 minutes to go a short was called. The defence gave it their all and as we set up the full-time whistle blew – This was it for both teams. Nomads choosing a strike from the top of the D pinged off a defence stick flying above the goal only to be batted in by the Nomad striker and ending the game 2-1 to Nomads. Overall, the 5s played well – letting the ball do the work and passing around the pitch well. It may have been a loss but it felt like a win for the 5s and just a glimpse of what is to come.
POM went to Avi for her great defending with nominations to Julie for great runs.
LOM went to Polly for turning up to Latham Road instead of Wilberforce and Harry for forgetting the kit bag.
BOM went to Amelie for being the ultimate Baby of the Match.
Polly Lockyer
For going to the wrong pitch; for forgetting to put on shin pads and for asking if it was a league game
