Lesson Plan 2.0 + Evaluation
Kim CooilTop Set Hockey
Prior Learning - 2-0 win against Norwich 2s last week
New to the Class- Cait and Juliette
Gifted and Talented - the whole class!
Lesson objectives:
To continue to develop our new formation
To increase our winning from the 1/1 to 2/2
To maintain possession whilst playing forward fast hockey
Warm up:
10 mins: Watch another Top Set lesson with the M1s v COP
10 mins: Send pupils off for a run and dynamic warm up
Obs: must have eyes on the class at all times, otherwise they run off and cannot be found for 10 minutes. Still unsure where they warmed up..
15 mins: have a detailed and thought out warm up with ample pitch time
Obs: apparently only had 6 minutes allocated to warm up.
Main Body of the lesson:
35 mins
Allowing for some independent learning in the first 35 minutes of this lesson, working specifically at linking passes, moving forward and counter attacking quickly.
Obv: The class looked strong in the first 35 minutes working hard for each other and clearly understanding all of the learning points. The forward unit linked together creating lots of opportunities with Lily running at pace, Izzy striking early and Cait, Juliette and Sophie working hard.
Obv: Senior Teacher Nige D’Cruz is working for rival school
Obv: EARLY GOAL BY IZZY - HOUSE POINT
Obv: defensive Unit of Sarah, Kim and Jenny x2 making some crucial tackles to ensure a clean sheet.
Obv: Jess picked up a rebound of the keeper and hit the crossbar (with a quality strike). Must remind her, this is not break-time and we have no time for the cross bar challenge in this classroom.
Half time
10 mins:
Mini Plenary and scheduled visit from Headmaster Tim
Give pupils time to hydrate and get some healthy snacks on board.
Discuss positives and negatives of the first half of the lesson.
Obvs: class rota for sweets seems to be going well so far this year.
Obvs: Key themes arisen to discuss in next lesson-
Continue to work on the press
Do not turn your back when we have a free hit
35 mins: Second half of lesson
Continue to develop on the first half. Ensure we work on fast passing, facing forward and working for each other. Implement the press.
Obvs: team started off second half with continued control, particularly with Kate, Evie, Jenny working in the defensive screen with Jess, Alice, Soph and Emma controlling the middle of the pitch.
Obvs: Cait scored an absolute banger from a tight angle. HOUSE-POINT
Obvs: Discipline of the class did waiver at one point - I did have to shout “why are you walking”. This seemed to have the desired effect with the class motivation high from that point
Obvs: PENALTY FLICK after the opposition stopped the ball on the goal line with their body. Off the keepers pad.
Obvs: I added in a bit of a spontaneous learning opportunity towards the end of the lesson to ensure the defensive short corner team felt appropriately challenged (they seemed slightly reluctant to continue to practice this, I must remind them that there is no good time to continue learning this particular skill, but it is a must).
With five minutes to go, and 105 short corners defended, a pupil I shall not name (me) chose that precise moment to take the ball quickly and hoof the ball straight into a jumping Kate.
This lead to some excellent Peer on Peer feedback from Kate- the precise dialogue shall not be written in this evaluation but perhaps worth speaking to Kate about her language for next week - more adjectives please.
Obvs: goal disallowed for a stick tackle outside D
Obvs: after a wonderful passage of passing play Lily (who has previously headed the ball) slotted it in beautifully. HOUSE POINT
End of lesson Plenary:
POM and LOM
Class to vote on those who they think achieved exceptional things during the lesson.
Obvs: Wide spread voting for POM this week which indicated an excellent team display with votes for Lily, Emma, Izzy, Kim, Kate, Evie but Cait won with her worldie goal.
LOM was slightly less even. Although Loopy got a mention for her one clearance. Kate got a few for her lack of plyometric work during the summer holidays- must remind her to focus on her jumping during CrossFit homework sessions.
Kim ended up with the most votes (11) for aforementioned incident, once again worth reminding the class that there are no such thing as mistakes, only opportunities to learn.
Summary of lesson:
Another visit from the Headmaster
Obvs: I could not tell whether he was happy with this lesson or not. He said some good things and some things to work on. A good educator indeed.
Did we achieve lesson objectives:
To continue to develop our new formation
Obvs: YES
To increase our winning from the 1/1 to 2/2
Obvs: YES
To maintain possession whilst playing forward fast hockey
Obvs: YES
Successful lesson overall. Probably OFSTED outstanding.
