Gary's Grand Day Out
Lucy LucasA 9-5 for the L3s huns this week. Fen roads doing us dirty and Charlotte('s dad) making the captain late meant Tiffy had to take over controlling the huns pre-game - it's not an easy task.
The rest of the squad being an hour and a half early (new season, new us) meant we had time to deliberate about what "being 5" was measured in. Fascinating topic.
On to the hockey. To put it simply it was a cracking start for the huns, very impressive hockey-ing.
Must mention there was a big wacker (big wacker= strong hitter in L3 terms) at the back. Terrifying at times. Remembered to get our pointy elbows out. Squad bringing down all the balls. Shocked myself a few times. Praise be for Tim for hammering home this skill.
Minutes also noted their Keeper was an absolute level up and the forwards needed to do some skillz to pop them in past her. They have skillz 4 dayz, and worked v hard in that D but still non a goal. Hitting was confirmed a big no no at half time but our gals just love a big hit (a solid L3 core skill - we can't help ourselves).
Suz got LOM votes for headbutting the ball. No headering allowed, you're not Peter Crouch. Anne got a whallop from big wacker. Men down, Tiff had to step in to defence. A natural some would say (after she confirmed she was listening) - thanks hun!
I've digressed, let's skip to what could have been a season highlight. I slot myself in for a dummy role on a short corner (we've had a few by this point). Bring up the sturdy bird and put them off. An excellent plan she says. Tiff gets confused and flings it out to me. I fling it back and she pops it in. The crowd roared and I finally got the feels as to why these huns bang on about getting an assist. I'm ignoring Steph telling me it didn't go out of the D. The ump calls a goal. The other ump calls a no goal. Indi knew it wasn't a goal. I'm still celebrating. It was a solid 3 minutes before we were fully clear It wasn't a goal (celebrating was a tad OTT by this point). Written down this is boderline embarrassing and next time I should probably say yes to practicing short corners at training (soz Tim).
Further hockey happened, Katie Borg was "banging balls, banging day out" (as cited from a POM vote). Cat, Connie and Indi earned themselves POM votes for their perseverance and composure in the middle and Han, me and Gary (later confirmed as Ginny) also got POM votes for "the aeriel" "being a rock" and "composure".
Luckily, Charlotte brought in the win for us in the 85th minute, a great run from Connie and Cat (not sure who got the official assist) and Charlotte was 1:1 with the keeper - such composure to get that goal popped her in the lead for POM this week.
Hella we were relieved to win. Mixed reviews on the feels of the game (and the teas jacky tatoes) but a win in the bag early doors is an Impressive start to the season.
