2/2 games won, 2/2 puppies stroked
Ruth FahertyIt was a beautiful day to wind our way across the fens. The team was on a high following a win from the first league game of the season. The energy was further boosted by the high powered soundtrack to a fitness class that echoed across the pitch entrance. It was a great first half, with two goals coming from short corners: a straight shot by Nicky and a rebound by Lou. The third goal of the half came in open play - a cracking assist by Esther allowed Nicky to get the ball on target once more.
After a quick Haribo break, we stormed back onto the pitch with hopeful enthusiasm, Claire almost hoping a ball might come her way in this half. No such luck however: the outfield team were simply on FIRE. Superb defence from Ruth, Ludo, Laura and Sophie kept the ball away from South's goal at some hair raising moments, and the ball was quickly hurried back upfield again and again by May, Harry and Lou. South won short corner after short corner but sadly didn't convert any in this action packed second half. Esther continued to run like a tank assisting Nicky 'n' Nicky and Pedzi up front, keeping South in the game. We managed to hold them off until the FT whistle, and we left the pitch triumphant on the way to teas......
High off their win, the team headed to teas, with only two cars getting lost on the 0.7 mile drive. There was initial disappointment as the famous Long Sutton disco ball of last season was nowhere to be found. However, things picked up from there as two adorable puppies entered the club house. Over a very hearty baked potato, the team cast their votes. POM was awarded to Esther for some great runs and assists. A three way tie for LOM went to Claire, Laura and May.
