Penalty flick save keeps the L6s top of the table
Ruth FahertyThe L6s made the trek all the way over the train tracks to see if they could make it 3/3 wins to start the season. St Ives 4 finished high up the table last season but South did beat them in the latter half of the season, it was sure to be a tight game. The L6s were also reunited with one of their captains, Georgia, though it was unclear what impact her return would have on their winning streak.
It was a slightly nervy start from the L6s who struggled to find their flow early on. St Ives had a few shots on goal and had a few shorts. One short then resulted in a penalty flick as Ruth (heroically) stopped the ball going in the back of the goal with her shin pad. This was actually on purpose because she wanted to give her little sister who was visiting and playing in goal an opportunity to demonstrate her goal keeping skills to the L6s. Clare masterfully saved the flick and the L6s were reinvigorated.
What followed was a tight, high-intensity game with great play from both teams. The L6s with some great passing up the pitch from everyone in the team. The game finished 0-0, a great result for the L6s against one of the strong teams in their league. Still sitting top of the table!
Teas were out at Queen Edith and this was also enjoyed by St Ives who said this was “one of the best teas they’ve ever had”. Should we suggest they start a rival rating system?
