The only way is up

Ginny Ashcroft

.So used to a 10.30 pass back of previous weeks we started the warm-up with me proclaiming my garmin must be broken as the time was showing as 13.07 not 12.07, confusing the 12.30 meet time with a 12.30 pass back. Thankfully we had many people who had already woken up and were able to me straight on the start time of 13.30 !

Onwards and upwards, we began the match with confidence drilled in and an attitude of being able to win this match from el capitano Tess. Earning Lom vote within 10 seconds of the game I sent a a ball straight away from St Neot’s and straight into Hannah’s head. Thankfully just a little tickle meant we got on our merry way again.

Any team member who were sceptical of Tess’ confidence of a win were quickly put in their place, with silky smooth passes up the wings our forward line were given shot after shot after shot on goal, scooping up every rebound and really giving their goalie a run around. A las nogoals prevailed in the first half.

Half time team talk and the team were buzzing and thirsty for that win we so deserved - off we went!

Second hald and we came out just as hard, but oh no 10 mins St Neots got a break and made it all the way to the goal finishing with a ball in the back of the net. BUMS they did not deserve to get the win this time…the pressure was on. In a series of event much like the 1999 Champions League Final (source: Beckham documentary), South’s forwards and mids stepped up to the mark and brought home a win:

Goal 1: Cait found her stick on the end of a kerfuffle at the goal securing our first goal

Goal 2: Steph found herself with minimal defenders on the left hand baseline and took a shot, and what a shot it was, flying in to the top right corner

Goal 3: With minutes left we had another short, ball injected to Connie by mistake, but what a mistake it was, with all the space and time in the world Connie sent a straight strike into the back of the net.

Glorious we had got our win. POM votes were neatly spread over our forwards and midfields with the final votes going to Steph for a stunning goal and Connie for her immaculate goal and silky runs up the wing.

Onwards and upwards.
